Diffusion Model

A diffusion model is a generative model trained to reverse a gradual noising process: it learns to remove noise step by step, so at generation time it can start from pure static and refine it into an image, sound or other output that matches your prompt.

No jargon, no math

In plain words, what is it?

Training runs in two directions. Forward: take a real image and add a little random noise, over and over, until nothing but static remains. The model sees thousands of these stages and learns, at each noise level, to predict what the cleaner version looked like. That is the whole trick: a noise-remover trained on millions of before-and-after pairs. Generation runs the reverse. You give a text prompt, the model encodes it as guidance, starts from random noise and applies the remover repeatedly. Each pass removes a bit of noise and adds a bit of prompt-matching structure: blobs become shapes, shapes get edges, edges get textures. After tens to hundreds of passes, a coherent image remains. The boundary: it follows the statistics of the prompt, not your intent, and it cannot draw facts, so any text inside the image usually comes out garbled.

§ 02How it worksFrom noise to image, one denoising pass at a time
  1. 01

Corrupt. Training adds random noise to real images, step by step, until only static remains.

  2. 02

Learn. The network practises predicting the cleaner version at every noise level.

  3. 03

Encode. Your prompt becomes a guidance signal the denoiser conditions on.

  4. 04

Denoise. Generation starts from pure noise and removes a little at each pass.

  5. 05

Refine. Structure emerges pass by pass, until a coherent image remains.
